Melodically driven, energetic and experimental, "Hyper-folk"
Breathe are an energetic, melodic and mostly acoustically driven Hyper-Folk outfit from Kingston/Surrey, playing all original music. Formed ‘accidentally’ in May 2019, their song writing spans a range of influences from Indie Folk, Rock and World music…Americana but with their own unique melodic twist.
2020 saw the release of 3 EP’s through their label Breathe Free Music, with more than a whole album’s worth of singles and accompanying videos being released in less than a year, all achieved remotely throughout lockdown.
The core band consists of Singer/Songwriter Meg McRae (Lead Vox, acoustic guitar, harmonica, mandolin), Drummer/Percussionist Pete Darlo (Drums, Cajon, Marimba, Melodica, Ukulele), and Cellist Hilary Insall.
They have a fond love for collaborating with many other musicians, as well as including interesting and different sounds and influences into their music. During the 2020 Lockdown periods, they started diversifying their acoustic sound to a fuller band sound, working remotely ‘alongside’ new musicians – violinist Jenni Grossmann, bassist Mark Saunders and guitarist Sam Scarrott, who all feature on their EP Civilisation Reset.
With 2021 already under way, Breathe has started working on a full length album due to be released later this year, with their first single “Seeing Things” being released on 2nd April 2021.
